Apply for an ITIN from Austria.

Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) in Austria. I authenticate your identity documents here in Austria. No need to mail your original passport to the IRS.

Why do you need an ITIN?

An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is a US tax processing number for individuals who are not eligible for a Social Security number but need a taxpayer identification number for US tax purposes.

Filing a US tax return

You have a US filing requirement but aren't eligible for an SSN. Your ITIN application (Form W-7) is filed together with your return.

FIRPTA – selling US real estate

When a foreign person sells US real property, the buyer is generally required to withhold tax. You need an ITIN to claim credit for the withholding or to apply for reduced withholding. Supporting documents: purchase agreement or Closing Disclosure, plus Form 8288, 8288-A or 8288-B.

Spouse of a US person

Your spouse is a US citizen or resident alien, and you want to file a joint return (Form 1040, Married Filing Jointly). You apply for the ITIN with the joint return.

US withholding tax refund

If US tax was over-withheld on income such as dividends, partnership income or pensions, you claim a refund on Form 1040-NR, attaching your Form 1042-S. Your ITIN application (Form W-7) is filed with that return.

I work with your tax advisor. Your tax advisor handles the tax questions and prepares your return, including any supporting documents. I authenticate your identity documents, issue the Certificate of Accuracy and submit your application to the IRS.

Don't have a tax advisor yet? I'm happy to put you in touch with one.
